New Year, New Post Part 1: Thanksgiving

For the two people who actually read my blog:
A lot has happened since the last post, most of which can be found on Elizabeth's blog.

Thanksgiving was a great semi-break from reality. Mom, Dad, Grandmother Bailey, & I went to Jonathan & Elizabeth's for a few days. Elizabeth's parents came for Thanksgiving dinner and we all had a wonderful time and ate a lot of delicious food. After dinner Savannah got her phone and was walking around as she talked. Elizabeth made the comment that she's just like her daddy- can't stand/sit still while on the phone. So of course, right then Jonathan comes walking through on the phone with our Uncle Larry. :-)

Mom & I have gone shopping the day after Thanksgiving a couple of times (what were we thinking??), and this year we agreed to do it only if Elizabeth wanted to. She wanted to go to Target & Michael's, and I needed new tennis shoes, so off we went in the freezing cold at 4:00 in the morning. Target didn't open until 5:00. Fortunately there is a Dick's next door that opened earlier, so Mom & I took refuge in there while Eliz. stood in line for Target. When the doors finally opened, there was a mad dash for the electronics dept. & I felt like a fish swimming upstream as I headed for the clothes. There weren't any bargains in the clothing dept., so I met up with Eliz., & Mom picked us up (armed with Krispy Kremes) then deposited us at Michael's & Shoe Carnival.

Shoe Carnival is an interesting place. There's not one anywhere near where I live, so I wasn't familiar with how it works. I go in & immediately see this huge wheel thing and wonder if someone raided the set of Wheel of Fortune... still don't know what that was about. By this time the store was really crowded and after a few minutes it was announced that shoes on orange balloon isles are half-price for the next 30 min. So I headed over that way & started trying on every pair of tennis shoes I can get my hands on, regardless of price. At last, I found THE pair; you know, the one that you put on & immediately know that this is it. I took the box to the man to have it marked, but he informed me that these were not from an orange balloon isle. I couldn't believe it! Apparently I had wandered away from the half-priced shoes. The thought crossed my mind to move a balloon, but it probably would have looked suspicious for an orange balloon to go bobbing down three isles to sit among black ones. Anyway, Mom showed up, so I told her what happened; she told me just to get in line & we would split the cost. While I stood in line brooding over the fact that I got up at 4:00 to stand in the longest line to buy $70 shoes that weren't on sale, I overheard someone mention coupons. Coupons! Mom raced out to the car to see if we had any. In the meantime, I let a couple of people go ahead of me & listened to a customer sing "Rudolf" to win a CD. Mom made it back with coupons, & we ended up getting her shoes half-price & mine at a discount.

Of course, I had to include a couple of pictures of my favorite niece doing what she does best when I'm at her house- stealing my purse. haha :-)
