Hurrah for Snow!

"Winter came down to our home one night quietly pirouetting in on silvery-toed slippers of snow, and we, we were children once again."
~Bill Morgan, Jr.

It snowed today! It was so beautiful that Mom & I just watched it for the longest time. It's been so long since we've had snow that even though it was just a little, I had to play in it and make a snowman.

Mom laughed at my snowman, saying that it looks like a duck sitting on its tailfeathers. I think it's wonderful, and yes, that is broccoli for hair and a gold fish for a nose. :-)

In Alabama, the strangest things happen when the weatherman predicts snow. At first, no one actually believes it because it's been somewhere around 15 yrs. since we've seen any significant amount of snow. Then, as the day draws near and the weatherman still says snow, everyone rushes to the store to buy as much milk and bread as possible. I've never understood this phenomenon and until today thought it was a regional thing, but my cousin informed me otherwise. Apparently people everywhere do this. I've heard that buying milk and bread is "in case the power goes out", but wouldn't it behoove us to stock up on batteries, blankets, and food that can be cooked on the gas grill? The next thing to happen is for all sorts of businesses to close. This usually happens before it even starts snowing. Everything from schools to churches close down. I couldn't help but laugh as I listened to all the things that were going to be closed today in honor of a little snow that would soon melt.

The snow begins! :-)

The other day I noticed that there is quite a bit of new growth in my flowerbed. This was kind of shocking since everything had died, but maybe I shouldn't have been surprised since it has been rather spring-like all winter. Here are some pictures of some of this new growth a couple of days ago and today:

Here are some pictures of the house, street, & woods:

This one's for you, Mom :-)
